Chaozhou arranges laoze by day: a dozen villages keep it at once on the same day of the first month, so start by asking which day of the month it is. 198 places are collected here, traced town by town to village across Xiangqiao, Chao’an and Raoping, the lunar days copied from the sources and the Gregorian converted for 2026 only.

How to use this table
Chaozhou calls the procession laoze; it is the same thing as the yinglaoye of Shantou. The name differs, and so does the arrangement: in Shantou it is mostly one village to a day, in Chaozhou a dozen villages keep it at once, so the table is read the other way round — first which day of the month, then which villages.
The days run by village, not by town. Within one town they can be widely spread: Dongfeng runs from the tenth of the first month to the twentieth, with villages every day; the twelve villages of Linxi fall between the third and the nineteenth; Caitang keeps it on six days of the first month. Some whole towns go at once — Jinshi on the twenty-second, for instance, when the ten townships of Dazhai plus Laicuo, Liaocuo, Tiantou, Shangguanlu, Zhangcuoxiang, Chencuoxiang, Huangcuoxiang, Changtou, Nanbuhuang, Gucuo and Wengcuo all fall together and almost the whole town area is in it.
The remarks are of two kinds. “Old list” is the 2014 table arranged by day and traced village by village to its town; “recent list” is another laoze table of the same name whose dates differ. Where the two hit the same village on different days, both rows are kept and not merged — some Chaozhou villages keep it twice a year, and not for the same god.
Where it runs two days the table splits it into two rows and the remark says first day, second day. Where it comes once in three years or once in five, that too is in the remark; such a year has to be asked about in the village and cannot be worked out from the table.

Xianzhou township in Qiandong and Qiaotou in Fubin are the two entries in the old list; Meizhai in Haishan and Suocheng, which keeps it with the cloth-horse dance, come from a 2012 post that I could not check against either list. The lunar days are copied from two laoze tables circulated in Chaozhou, not worked out from a calendar. The first is the 2014 table arranged by day and traced village by village to its town, marked “old list”; the second is another table of the same name with different dates, marked “recent list”. Where they disagree both rows stand. The Gregorian column is converted for 2026 alone — 2026 has no leap month in the lunar calendar, so the first month begins on 17 February and the days follow one another without a gap; for any other year the lunar column has to be converted again.
Village names follow the Chinese as written in the tables, in pinyin, with the word for “village” dropped; a name in brackets is the older or local form the tables give alongside. Where a row covers several villages they are listed in one cell and the day applies to all of them.
Two cautions. First, a table is a list of claims, not a schedule: villages move the day, drop it for a year, or keep it once in three or five years, and a row that says so cannot be used to plan a trip without asking in the village. Second, the four Shantou and Jieyang tables on the index page are laid out the other way round, one village to a day, because that is how Shantou arranges it.
