Images wanted, and how permission is asked
A record of which sessions in this section still lack photographs from the ground, where to look, how to ask, and how far each approach has got. There is one rule: nothing goes up without the author’s consent. Images without consent are not used at all, and a gap is better than a wrong claim.
1. Which sessions are filled first
| Session | What is missing | Search terms |
|---|---|---|
| Yangmei torch festival | torches carried in file, the circuit round the village, the stage | 阳美 火把节/磐东 火把 |
| Qiaolin firework dragon | bare-chested dragon dance, the dragon throwing sparks, the moment it is set alight | 乔林 烧龙/乔东 火龙 |
| Yanzao, dragging the god | the palanquin greased, the tussle on it, the lines on the god’s ground | 盐灶 拖神/盐鸿 老爷 |
| Dachanglong, the lantern congratulations | the T-shaped frame, the characters on the lantern, the circuit before Cuihuan hall | 大长陇 贺灯 |
| The Sanshan kings’ tour | the god carried through narrow lanes, banner flags and yingge clearing the way | 金浦 梅花 老爷/上园老爷 |
| Guanshan, the great pig contest | pigs on the frames before the hall, red stamps and red flowers | 冠山 赛大猪 |
| Jieyang City God temple fair | blue lions and yingge clearing the way, the file before the Jinxian gate | Jieyang 城隍 巡游 |
| Xikou through the sugarcane lanes | cane on both sides with lanterns hung at the tips, the file passing through | 溪口 穿蔗巷/磷溪 蔗巷 |
| Fenggang temple fair | the live table (live chickens and ducks), the offering tables in full | 凤岗 妈祖/濠江 凤岗 |
| Xidong, jumping the fire mounds | the mounds in a row, the file taking off | 溪东 跳火墩 |
The other sessions (Hepu, Nansha, Longdu, Shangrao, Guiyu, Zhanglin, Ximen, Outing, Yuepu) also lack images; these ten come first because there is reporting to set them against, so picture and text can check one another.
1b. Authors already in touch (first approach)
| Account | Already granted | What else to ask | State |
|---|---|---|---|
| Douyin @C w刺猬 (Douyin number 14066180, 469 posts) | 4 for the Azure Dragon temple fair (12 March 2026), 4 for the Yuepu pig contest (16 February 2024) | whether they have shot other first-month sessions (Yanzao, Guanshan, the village events around Xitou and Xikou), and their plans for the first month of 2027 | In touch, eight agreed; the rest still to ask |
This is the first author this section came to terms with; the use and its limits were set out in their direct messages, so later requests on the same subjects need not restate the rules, only ask whether they have shot it and whether it may be used.
Follow-up wording: thank you again for the eight. I wanted to ask whether you have other villages from the first month — Yanzao, Guanshan, Xikou — and if so whether they could be licensed to the site as well. They would be used only on the entry pages for those sessions, the caption giving your account and the date, not for commercial use and not resold. If not, no trouble at all.
1c. Session and likely author
| Session | Likely author | Basis |
|---|---|---|
| Guanshan, the great pig contest | Douyin “猛虎” | four sets, A/B/C/E, plus a 04:46 panorama of the ground; shot in the first month of 2026 |
| Yangmei torch festival | Douyin “Jieyang自由的风”, “阿甘短剧生活” | the first has the 2026 scene (the long torch file), the second a complete 01:00 account |
How to look: search place name plus event name, and see who on the first screen shot it most fully and most continuously; sets published together come first.
Searching back from “Guanshan, the great pig contest”, @C w刺猬, already in touch, does not appear on the first screen — they did not follow that session. So no single author covers everything: search back session by session. This table is added to as the search goes on.
2. Where to look
In order: first the accounts of local photographers and photographic societies (the most solid images, and the most willing to license); second the official accounts of villages, temples and committees (they have a record of the event and licensing is firmest); third pictures from local media (mostly work made in the course of employment, so ask the outlet, not the individual reporter).
The platforms are mainly Douyin, Xiaohongshu and Shipinhao, with WeChat official accounts after them. Search by place name plus event name, not by general words.
3. How to ask (ready to copy)
Hello, I am an editor at Chaoshan Wiki (chaoshanwiki.com). The page on “such-and-such” would like to use the photographs you posted on such-and-such a date: (describe each frame).
Use: only on the entry page for that one event, the caption giving your account and the date; the site is a non-commercial cultural site with no advertising, no charges and no resale of images; photographs are only scaled proportionally and your watermark is kept.
If you agree, I will keep these and change the caption to “used with permission”; if only some, just say which; if not, one line and I will take them down, no reason needed. Images are recorded in the site’s image ledger.
Four points: say which images, say how they will be used, say that nothing is commercial, and leave a way to say no. The eight for the Azure Dragon fair and the Yuepu pig contest were settled exactly this way.
4. Recording and publishing
Each set that is settled takes three steps: the caption gains “used with permission: date, the author agreed in a reply on such-and-such a platform”; the site’s image ledger gains a line (the eight set the precedent); the state column becomes “licensed and online”.
Sets that do not settle are also noted, as “in touch, no reply” or “declined, taken down”, so that the same person is not troubled twice.
