Taguan Yingge Team
Taguan is in Miancheng. Formed in 2014, with more than 300 members; about a hundred go on stage, and the youngest Shi Qian is nine.

A street parade, the team drawn out into a single fileTaguan is the men’s Yingge of the Ximen team. Ximen also has a women’s team, there since 1952: one team, two doors, both from the same place.
When the town watches Yingge it watches Taguan first — the stage is here, and once the drum starts half the street can hear it.

The street
Red paper all the way
When they go out, firecracker paper lies ankle-deep. A hundred-odd stretch into one line, neither end in sight.

Costume
Two pheasant tails
Two long pheasant tails go at the head of the line, held upright as they walk. Rank after rank follow, every face painted.

Street practice
Beating the street at night
They practise at night unpainted. In ordinary clothes they walk the street in file, the drum never stopping and the feet keeping to it.

around Wenguang Pagoda
Taguan stands near Wenguang Pagoda, and the Shuangzhong stage belongs to the team. The pagoda is in the middle of the town, seven storeys and eight sides, with a gallery you can climb.
Striking, raising, resting

All four come under a single permission from Xiao Kaihong and are not the team’s own; the three that can be traced to the team are in the previous section.
Seven names
The names exist; the floor plans do not. The glosses above merely restate the names and are not the source’s own account of the movement.

Eight notes
2014. Per the Shantou Polytechnic Yingge feature (2025-03-04).
In 2025-03 the college page says “now over a hundred members”; in 2023-09 Chen Tanpeng said in an interview that “there are more than 300”. A year and a half apart, and the material does not explain the change, so both are given side by side.
The line-up for the Shantou national day parade on 2023-10-01. The one missing is Lu Junyi — he is the man being rescued and does not stand in the ranks.
107 in a single file run past a hundred metres; split into four columns, about fifty.
Chen Tanpeng, a district-level inheritor of Chaoyang Yingge and Taguan’s coach.
Liede village and Heli Tiande Plaza in Guangzhou, the Mazu Tianhou Temple at Nansha; and in 2024 to Hong Kong, China for the birthday of Wong Tai Sin at Che Song.
The main coaching unit for Yingge in Chaoyang schools, teaching regularly in primaries, secondaries and kindergartens.
The lead image and the first six in section four come from the team’s own video: this team at Wenguang Pagoda square, on the Shuangzhong festival street and returning to the temple at night. The video stream tops out at 1024×576, enough for cards only. The last three in section four are other teams; only the photographer is credited.
Three things not yet settled
The roster of 300-odd. Only a total: no name list, and no split between senior and junior teams.
How the seven formations work. How many to a group, how far apart, when the beat changes — none of it is written.
Where the medium tempo ends and the fast begins. “The medium-fast tempo is the main stick” is one team’s phrasing; which passage slows down the material does not separate.
